Basic Resources on Aging

The Iowa Department on Aging is the state's primary state agency that offers comprehensive resources and information for Iowans aged 60 and over.

There are 13 Area Agencies on Aging in Iowa, covering every county in the state. Each of Iowa’s Area Agencies on Aging offers assistance through the Iowa Family Caregiver Support Program to put caregivers in touch with essential services to help in their caregiving role and to meet the needs of the older family member/friend or those individuals with Alzheimer's and disabilities. Each agency has Family Caregiver Specialists, experienced and knowledgeable in the field of aging and caregiving, who listen to your request or concern and explain sources of help based on individual circumstances.

The federal Administration on Aging offers additional programs, services, and information on resources for older Iowans and caregivers from a national perspective.

AARP and AARP-Iowa are non-profit, nonpartisan membership organizations for persons over age 50 "dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all as we age."
