Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program

The Iowa Finance Authority has housing assistance programs for eligible Iowans.  Visit their website for updates , eligibility, and resources.  

Financial Consultation

If you're concerned about your finances and not sure where to start, get free, confidential financial help from a Family Finance Educator at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.  For more information, visit their Managing Personal Finances in Tough Times webpage or leave a message at 1-800-447-1985, and someone will call you back

Home Energy Assistance

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps individuals and families meet the partial cost of home heating through a one-time payment made directly to the utility or heating vendor. The Department of Human Rights administers this program through its network of local community action agencies.  Applications are being accepted through June 30, 2020.  Contact your local community action agency for eligibility guidelines.  Your local community action has other types of help available such as food and clothing pantries, emergency assistance, and other services.  

Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS)

The Iowa Department of Human Services has a number of assistance programs such as food, childcare, and cash assistance.  Visit their website for information on programs and eligibility.

Iowa Regent Universities

lowa's regent universities have established emergency funds to support students who may be adversely affected by the coronavirus.  Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa launched the funds to help students address their most urgent needs as they transition from living and learning on campus to online classes.

Stimulus Payments

The federal government is sending stimulus checks to help Americans in need.  The payment is automatic for most taxpayers. No further action is needed by taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees.  You can visit the IRS's website to see if you are eligible for the payment, to view information for non-filers, to update your direct deposit information, to update your address for check payments, to check on the status of your payment, and for more information. 

Unemployment Insurance

The Iowa Workforce Development is the state agency that administers unemployment insurance benefits.  Visit their website or call for eligibility guidelines, application process, and updates.
