Community Action Agencies

The Division of Community Action Agencies addresses issues facing families by bringing resources for the elderly, disabled and the low-income to the community level.

Highlights

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Prevent Child Abuse IowaDHR Director San Wong helps kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month with its partner, Prevent Child Abuse Iowa, at the State Capitol.  DHR supports the well-being of children, youth, and families so that children can have the opportunity to grow and thrive.  We help families reach their goals of furthering their education and training, increase their skills to gain employment, build assets, seek assistance with issues related to domestic abuse and mental health, increase their connections and access to community resources, and improve positive outcomes for youth.

Commissions, Boards & Councils

The DHR is your partner in building better communities for all who live here. We open doors, find answers, meet challenges and develop resources. We provide a link among agencies, nonprofits and outreach groups within the state, and between federal and state programs. Our approach stems from a Commission, Board and Council structure to ensure the distinct voices of all Iowans are heard.  If you are interested in serving on a commission or board, go to http://openup.iowa.gov to learn more about the application process.
