Funding Opportunity
CJJP applied for and was awarded $1.542 million in Delinquency Prevention grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, to expand pre-charge diversion in Iowa over the next five years. The Juvenile Justice Advisory Council has invested an additional $52,000 for a total contribution of $1,594,177.
Purpose
The goal of the Delinquency Prevention grants program is to help youth avoid involvement in delinquency in reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors in their schools, communities, and families. Iowa's strategy towards this goal is to invest in the development of new or expanded pre-charge diversion programs.

Iowa Code - Definition of Diversion
Iowa Code §232.2 32A. “Juvenile diversion program” means an organized effort to coordinate services for a child who is alleged to have committed a delinquent act, when the organized effort results in the dismissal of a complaint alleging the commission of the delinquent act or results in informally proceeding without a complaint being filed against the child, and which does not result in an informal adjustment agreement involving juvenile court services or the filing of a delinquency petition.
