The Juvenile Justice Advisory Council (JJAC) is appointed by the Governor pursuant to federal law to oversee Iowa's use of the Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 (as amended 12/2018) Title II Formula Grant funds and to develop plans for system improvements. The State of Iowa receives annual federal funding for the following areas:

- Gender Specific Community Initiative
- Disproportionate Minority Contact
- Mental Health
