Biography: 

Rachelle Hunt Russian has been in the financial services industry for more 30 years. Rachelle currently works for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a mortgage sales specialist. She has previously worked for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, KPMG LLP, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Rachelle is a graduate of Alabama State University, in Montgomery, Alabama. She has a B.S. in Business Administration. She also has a Master of Science in Management degree from University of Maryland University College, in Adelphi, Maryland. In addition, she has a Strategic Decision and Risk Management certificate from Stanford University, and is a certified John Maxwell Team coach, teacher, trainer, and speaker.

Rachelle is serving a second term on the commission. She served as the chairperson of the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee in 2015 and 2016, and served as a committee participant in 2014 and 2017. She has worked on the strategic plan and outreach to committees, and is currently working on the Iowa Women at Work Initiative. Rachelle also served on the Friends Board of the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women for five years. In the community, Rachelle currently serves as the Strategic Planning Chairman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Zeta Omega Chapter in Des Moines. The sorority’s mission is to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature. She has also served as the chapter’s president, vice president, program chair, and hostess.

Rachelle is a member of the Des Moines Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and serves as a financial officer within the chapter. The Links, Incorporated is one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations comprised of women business and civic leaders, with a focus on enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and persons of African ancestry. Rachelle is on the Corinthian Gardens board of directors in Des Moines, and was recently appointed as a commissioner to the Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Commission. In addition, she is a former board member of the Washington, DC Chapter of the Urban Financial Services Coalition. Rachelle’s previous volunteer experience expanded through several organizations including Investing In My Future, Junior League of Des Moines, Meals for the Heartland, Iowa Special Olympics, Creative Visions, Girl Scouts, and Joshua Christian Academy.

Rachelle is a member of the Corinthian Baptist Church, and serves a Deaconess, and the F.W. Strickland Library Ministry director. She is married to Walter Russian, and is the mother of the late Walter Nathaniel Alexander Russian. She also has two younger siblings. Theron lives in Savannah, Georgia, and Alexis lives in Des Moines, Iowa.
